Meet Abbey
Abbey has been a full-time interior designer since 2010, working in both residential and commercial fields. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree majoring in interior design and minoring in business administration. She also earned a separate degree in interior design from Baker College.
In 2013, Abbey joined Meiste Homes as their in-house interior designer. Abbey brings an element of fun to her work, saying, “There is never a dull moment. We keep each other laughing on good days and bad!”
When Abbey started working for Meiste Homes, she helped to set up a design process that helps to keep projects flowing in an organized manner. As she walks clients through this process, she tries to help people focus on one aspect at a time, and in a certain order so that the subcontractors have what they need by the time they start their work. For example, Abbey helps her customers select their appliances and plumbing fixtures before work begins on cabinetry, as this allows the cabinetry to be customized around the selections. It would be harder to design a kitchen without knowing the exact sizes of the fridge, sink, and cooktop, etc.
Abbey is a wonderful source of advice. She recommends browsing through pictures on Houzz and Pinterest for some great inspiration, and then narrowing it down to 3-5 “must-haves.” This helps to focus spending on clients’ favorite features, and keep the other areas of their home in or under budget.
